In an effort to monitor Americans’ preferred choice for long-term investment, Gallup administers a yearly survey. Those taking the survey are able to choose between real estate, stocks/mutual funds, gold, savings accounts/CDs, or bonds, as their preferred long-term investment vehicle.
Now for the 4th year in a row, Real Estate was chosen as Americans’ best long-term investment!
The most recent results showed that 34% of Americans chose real estate, followed by stocks at 26%. See chart below for details:
Notably, the sentiment has changed over the last four years compared to that of 2011-2012. During that time, gold took the top slot with 34% of the votes. While still in recovery from the Great Recession, Real Estate and stocks took 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
The Takeaway
The belief of the American people in the stability of housing being a wise long-term investment vehicle, has recovered along with the US economy’s recovery.
